Pre-Reception – Fostering Independence
At St David’s we strive to give our littlest ones the opportunity to foster independence from day one, be that learning to put their coat on independently or carry their own plate to the table at lunch times. All of these little acts help to build their confidence, ready for ‘big school’ and the transition into Reception.
At this time of year we enhance this transition by taking the children on small outings into the local community. Over the last few weeks Miss Smith, our Pre-Reception leader, alongside Miss Weaver, their new Reception teacher, have taken smaller groups to our local garden centre in Eden Park and our new library in West Wickham. This gives them an opportunity to explore their local surroundings and become familiar with their new teacher ready for September.
This sense of independence is also vital in helping them become more confident, build resilience and practice essential life skills in a safe environment. If you’re looking for a Pre-School place for your little one why not book a tour with us and see for yourself how we put these methods into practise on a daily basis. The last few places for September 2026 remain – could they be yours?
