Pre-Reception at St David’s Prep
Set within our expansive green space in the heart of West Wickham, our Pre-Reception class offers a nurturing and inspiring environment for children aged 3–4. Here, children have the space to explore, play and grow, surrounded by nature and supported by caring, experienced staff. It’s a place where young learners feel safe, confident and excited to begin their school journey.
Part of a bigger school community
Pre-Reception is not separate from our thriving prep school, it is very much part of it. Children attend assemblies and take part in school events. This helps them to grow in confidence and feel excited about the journey ahead.
A smooth transition into Reception
One of the greatest strengths of our Pre-Reception class is how naturally it leads into Reception. Located in the same building, children quickly become familiar with the environment, staff and daily routines.
From the very beginning, Reception staff spend time in the Pre-Reception classroom and get to know the children. As the year progresses, children even begin to use the Reception play area, making the transition feel seamless and stress-free.
Access to fantastic facilities
Pre-Reception children at St David’s Prep enjoy access to a range of our excellent facilities. From our outdoor play areas and school field, to the sports hall and Forest School, children have the space to move, explore and discover. Pre-Reception children benefit from a freshly prepared nutritious hot lunch each day from our fantastic on-site catering team. They also have access to our holiday club, providing continuity and care beyond term time.
Specialist teaching from the start
Even our youngest learners benefit from our rich and varied curriculum. Pre-Reception children enjoy specialist teaching in:
- Computing
- Music
- Modern Foreign Languages
- Sport
These sessions are carefully tailored to be engaging, age-appropriate and fun. They help children to discover new interests and build confidence in different areas.
A joyful approach to learning
In our Pre-Reception class, children learn through play, feeding their curiosity and imagination. Each week introduces a new theme, but children are encouraged to follow their own interests, ask questions and discover the world around them in their own way. Our small class size allows careful guidance and support from our experienced staff, meaning every child develops at their own pace with individual attention. Forest School also plays a key role in our approach, giving children the opportunity to explore, experience safe challenges, and connect with nature in a meaningful way.
Flexible days to suit your family
We offer 15 hours funded places (term time only), with flexible options to support busy family life:
- 8:00am – 1:00pm
- 8:00am – 4:00pm
- 8:00am – 5:00pm
- 8:00am – 6:00pm
Joining Pre-Reception at St David’s Prep
We welcome children to join our Pre-Reception class in September 2026, with a limited number of January 2027 start places also available.
