Year 6 Heart Dissection

Testing their nerves with a real life heart dissection…..

Back in September Mrs Sowter decided to take her Science lesson to the next level for our Year 6 students with a real life sheep’s heart dissection. After studying the heart in detail, learning the inner workings of the heart, labelling the arteries and valves the children set to work making the right incisions to see further into the muscle.

The children were positively giddy at being given this opportunity and absolutely relished this hands on experience. Some were less enthused but even they eventually got stuck in. It’s not everyday you get to dissect a heart!

This was a really inspiring lesson for the children even more so for those already keen to become future Surgeons and Veterinarians. So let’s watch this space!
