Taking the Lead in Lego

Robotics club battle setbacks to triumph in First Lego League Regionals……

We couldn’t be prouder of our Year 6 Robotics Team for overcoming so many obstacles during their time at the Birmingham Regionals over half term. The team have been working extremely hard over the last term and a half to create their very own Lego robot which follows a sequence of movements that have been coded by the team. Not only that but the team of students had to produce and deliver a presentation to the judges on the day and talk about their robot design.

The competition took place at Birmingham University and the day itself saw some challenges. Mrs Sowter, who accompanied the group on the trip along with Mrs Campbell, said ‘perseverance, determination and curiosity were all involved in last minute changes to coding for the missions’ She goes on to say ‘creativity, time management checks and respect from every member of the team are evident here’ These qualities are so engrained in our St David’s school values it’s no surprise to us that they managed to utilise these skills when faced with such a challenge.

The team worked together to come away with two trophies on the day. Winners of the Robot Points Table Challenge and Overall Champions of the day! Its hard to put into words how proud we are of the team and what this means for them. They now have the exciting task of competing in the First Lego League Challenge Finals in Harrogate on the 20th April.

We believe in you team! St David’s is right behind you.
