Remembrance Day
Staff and pupils alike were moved by the mature, poignant and humorous performance of Archie Dobson’s War, a play tracing the life of Archie and his older sister from 1914 – 1918, written by Rob Johns and Barry Gibson. The singing of songs, some from WW1 and some especially written for the play were sung beautifully and thoughtfully.
Following the visit Year 6 made to Whitgift’s WW1 exhibition and workshop, the pupils immersed themselves in their joint History and English project. They pulled out all the stops to create costumes, props and memorabilia from WW1, ably assisted by Mrs Sowter and Mrs Merritt.
The stunned silence at the end of the play said it all. At 11 o’clock we were led into our two minute silence by Joe (Year 6) playing The Last Post.
A truly memorable morning.
