Music-A-Thon!

Monday 25th March 2024 was a day to remember here at St David’s Prep with our first ever Music Marathon. The aim was ‘simple’ – to play non stop music for 12 hours. The idea came to Mrs Foulger, our wonderful Head, as a way of raising some money for St Christopher’s Hospice, a charity close to our schools heart. Luckily with the help of so many, teachers, children and parents alike, the day was able to come together with relative ease. Mrs Sowter, our Music lead, did a fantastic job of organising the day and allocating the many slots that were available. We spread our net far and wide in asking for help and even had some ex students come and perform for us on the day too.

Having never done this type of event before there was an element of trepidation when the singing started at 8am that morning. Would we have enough people to ensure the music never stopped? Would anyone turn up to hear the music? But we need not have worried – the hall was fit to bursting from the get go. In the afternoon the music moved to the field with Mrs Haffenden leading the chorus at lunch play, followed by the cutest performance from our Pre-Reception and Reception children on the top court to ‘You’ve Got A Friend In Me’.

As the school day came to a close, the music continued with some extra special performances from our very talented parents including members of XBY (Ex students of Bromley Youth Music) playing a wonderful mix of pieces from Broadway shows to films. It was a great honour to have them join us fresh from a recent win of the top Platinum award at the National Wind Band Festival.

The 12th hour then came to a close with a set from The Plus Ones featuring our very own Mr and Mrs King, helped out by special performances from 3 of our students throughout the set. The night ended on a high, somehow we found the energy to complete the entire 12 hours with thoughts immediately turning to what could we do next year?

Thank you to our St David’s community for really pulling together on the day and helping the children with their performances. Together we managed to raise over £1000 which is beyond our wildest expectations.
